(Documents)Tray Folder v2.05

Trial Version
-------------------------

THE "QUICK USE" SECTION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. The rest of the information located in this Readme is also found in the Manual that is located in your secure tray folder.

---------
QUICK USE:
---------
*1st Step*

Use the Start Menu's shortcut to Tray Folder to get Tray Folder started. The shortcut is located in the Start Menus Programs list in a folder named Tray Folder.

Use IconControl to enable the tray icon. The Icon Control executive file is located in your launcher tray folder and looks like a stop sign. In the tray icons right-click menu, click on Launcher and your launcher tray folder will open. Icon Control is very easy to use. Click "Enable" and the tray icon will be enabled. When the tray icon is enabled a Cycling entry will be available in the right-click menu.

Cycling Folder = secure tray folder

Once you have enabled the tray icon, right-click on the tray icon, and click on Cycling and the Cycling menu will appear. Click Open and you are asked for your password. At the login screen, enter the word "change" without quotation marks. The login screen will then ask you for your current password. You do not have one at this point so leave it blank and click the "Change" button. The next window will ask you for the new password. Enter your new password and click the save button. It is suggested that a short and simple password be used to start out with, your age or initials perhaps. At this point you have a password and can click on Open in the Cycling menu, enter your password, and open the "Cycling Folder". The "Cycling Folder" is your secure tray folder. It is called the "Cycling Folder" because you will be able to cycle the protection of your Secure Tray Folder between a secured mode and an unsecured mode -very easily.

Once you are through inspecting the contents of the Cycling Folder close it and then right-click on the tray icon and click on "Cycling" to open the Cycling menu. Click on Protect and your Cycling Folder files will be protected. On the tray icons right-click menu, click on "Disable" and the tray icons right-click menu will lose the "Cycling", and "Disable" entries. Use "Icon Control" to enable the tray icon whenever you need these options. Do not let anyone else have access to the Icon Control executive and they will not have access to the tray icons right-click features that have to do with your Cycling Folder.

"Open"... Login and open your Cycling Folder
"Protect"... Put the Cycling Folder's files in the protected mode.
"Tools"... Menu of the Secure Delete, Backup, File Encryption, and Recycler features...
"Disable"... Removes Cycling Folder features from the tray icon's right-click menu

The Cycling Folder is located in the My Documents folder under your profile. In its protected mode the Cycling Folder is hidden behind a Recycle folder which appears to be a regular Recycle Bin type folder. The Cycling Folders files are encoded to a file named Cycling which is created in the Application Data folder located under your profile.

The Applications Data folder under your profile is most likely a hidden folder. Use the two settings below to control the visibility of the hidden and SuperHidden files and folders. SuperHidden is the term that Microsoft has coined to refer to files and folders that have been hidden as protected operating system files.

SuperHidden = protected operating system files and folders

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TWO SETTINGS YOU MAY NEED TO CHANGE TEMPORARILY TO VIEW HIDDEN, OR SYSTEM, FILES OR FOLDERS.

1. Go to Folder Options and select "Show hidden files and folder" to view hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer. Change it back to "Do not show hidden files and folders" when you are through.
2. Go to Folder Options and un-select "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" to view hidden system files and folders in Windows Explorer. Change it back when finished.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Be sure to experiment with the "Run" commands.

1 EXPERIMENT WITH THE "RECYCLER" FOR A MINUTE OR TWO. There is more information about these features below. The Recycler is not just a basic Recycle Bin.

There is a shortcut to your Launcher tray folder placed in your "SendTo" folder under your profile. Right-click a file, or folder, and select "My Launcher Tray Folder" in the "Send To" listings and a copy of the article will be placed in your Launcher.

________

----------------------
Installing Tray Folder: (Important)
----------------------

"Tray Folder" will be installed for the current user only. If "Tray Folder" is opened under a different profile by another user it will automatically close.

(For a clean install-)
IF YOU ARE REINSTALLING "TRAY FOLDER", OR UPGRADING FROM THE TRIAL VERSION TO THE REGISTERED VERSION, MAKE BACKUPS OF YOUR LAUNCHER TRAY FOLDER AND YOUR SECURE TRAY FOLDER AND DELETE THESE TWO FOLDERS TO GET A CLEAN INSTALL. The launcher is located under your profile and will have adopted your profile's name. The secure tray folder is located under your profile in your "My Documents" folder. Your secure tray folder is the "Cycling Folder". Make sure it is in the unprotected mode, make a backup copy of it if you need to, and delete it. Securely delete it if you need to. (For more information see "To Reinstall:" at the very end of this Readme.)

Before you run Setup, put the folder with the setup files in it in a location where you can leave it for a short time- an hour or so. Then open the folder and click on the setup file to install the program.

Click on "Tray Folder Setup" to install.

ONCE YOU HAVE INSTALLED THIS PROGRAM, LEAVE THE TF.SETUP FOLDER AND FILES IN PLACE. The program will need to access the setup files. So, leave the setup folder in the same location- but only till the program has been fully installed.

Once you have the program installed, start the program and click on everything in the program's shortcut group, located in the start menu, and run everything if only for a few seconds. Also, open and run everything in the "Launcher" and the "Cycling Folder" which is your secure tray folder. Once everything has been opened and run, remove the setup files to a safe place or securely delete them. If you delete the setup files you used to install the program hang unto the "TrayFolder" ZIP file you downloaded. If you need a place to securely store the downloaded ZIP file- read about the "Recycler" that is included in this program.

ONCE THE PROGRAM IS FULLY INSTALLED UNDER YOUR PROFILE- REMOVE THE SETUP FILES. If you do run into a situation in which you are asked for the Installation files, put the installation files back where they were located when the Tray Folder program was being installed.

(MSI setup info... The .msi setup file will repair the program's files -an .msi is a Microsoft Installer. To avoid all this, before you install the program put the .msi setup file in a location where you can leave it. If some of the program's files are corrupted or deleted, the program will be able to locate the setup file. However, it is a security risk to leave the setup file in a location where it is available to others. So, the best way is to do it the old fashioned way -if you have a problem with the program uninstall it, get the setup file out of storage, and reinstall the program. It only takes about 5 minutes. If you prefer, you can right-click on the setup file and select "Repair" to repair the program's files.)

Tray Folder's program files folder is setup and installed in the Program Files directory under your user profile. This directory is most likely hidden or hidden as a protected operating system file. To make the Program Files directory under your profile visible you will likely need to use the two settings below.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important Note:
Store the setup files in a secure manner. Do not let anyone else get their hands on the setup files. A password protected .zip file would work. You can add password protection to the .zip file you downloaded. Go to "File" in the Menu Bar, select "Add a Password" in the drop down menu, and follow the prompts.

Once the program is up and running it would be best to select each of the options in the tray icon's right-click popup menu and then unselect each of the options, a-time-or-two, before making your final selections, in order to assure your selections are saved properly. (This step is not absolutely necessary but whenever this is done during the first or second use of software it will likely result in the file system being kosher and more structured.)
------------------------

Titlebar does recognize that this information may be somewhat confusing at first. In an effort to foolproof Tray Folder, this information has been written with special and high regard given to folks who truly want to protect their important personal and business data. The main objectives of the "Tray Folder" program are privacy and security.

Hang in there and you will very quickly develop a knack for working with "Tray Folder" to the extent that you could quite possibly hide an elephant in your tray folder and no one but you would ever see that elephant again- unless you wanted them to. Literally- well, maybe just a picture or photograph of an elephant.

It may be a good idea to ignore the information about encryption and password protected .zip files till after you have mastered the basics of "Tray Folder". This can probably be done best by doing it one step at a time. First, master the use of the launcher -"Tray Folder"(the one visible in the right-click menu) and "Title Bar Time". You might want to experiment with the "Reminder" for a few minutes also. There is a "Notifier" feature that is accessible through the "Reminder". The "Reminder" and the "Notifier" features are both kind of fun to use. It is suggested that you not use the "Tools", found in the "Cycling menu, till you have mastered the "Open" and "Protect" commands.

There is no "Help" file or "About Screen" in the Tray Folder program. We thought the Help file and the About Screen would end up being clutter for most users and would lower the security of your secure tray folder by giving other people casual access to information concerning your tray folder. Please consider this Readme to be the Help file and the About Screen. The Manual is installed by setup to your secure tray folder.

(The "Cycling Folder" = your secure tray folder)

If this program is not used in the correct manner not only will no else be able to get to your secure tray folder's contents, you will not be able to get to it either. If you have a problem, uninstall "Tray Folder" and reinstall it and give it another try. Your personal tray folder files and folders will NOT be removed by uninstalling Tray Folder. A person with average computer skills should be able to attain a basic understanding of the functions and uses of Tray Folder in approximately 30 minutes.

Of utmost importance is the "IconControl" feature.

The (Documents) Tray Folder program and the (Hidden) Tray folder program are very similar. As a result, they should not be run at the same time. It would be best to have only one of them installed on you computer.

"My Tray Folder" is included in and is part of the "Tray Folder" program. If you have installed the (Documents) Tray Folder program and have the "My Tray Folder" program installed, uninstall "My Tray Folder". There are also several of Titlebar Software's freeware programs that are actually part of Tray Folder. These freeware titles are "Titlebar Time", Titlebar Date", "ToDo Reminders", and "Daily Reminders". If you have any of these installed on your computer, uninstall them. You do not need them because they are all included in the Tray Folder program. It will not hurt anything for them to be on your computer. But it is pointless since they are all part of Tray Folder and they will simply take up space, clutter up your hard drive, and conflict with Tray Folder if they are run at the same time as Tray Folder. These other programs can remain on your computer if there are other users of your computer using them but make sure the programs do not run under your profile. It certainly will not hurt anything if these other programs run at the same time as Tray Folder but the programs are likely not to function properly.

"Tray Folder" is not going to clutter your tray up with tray icons you do not want. If you do not need or want the tray icon, uncheck "AutoStart" in the tray icon's right-click menu, exit the Tray Folder program and only start Tray Folder when you need to access your secured tray folder. You may want to use the run command "tf2" to start the Tray Folder program. There is more information about this run command below.

Tray Folder is a fairly small program. There is NO SPYWARE OR ADVERTISEMENTS. And, Titlebar Software will never send you any spam.
------------------------

Examples of use:
*If a person was writing their will, before taking it to an attorney, and they needed to work on it over a period of time they could use "Tray Folder" to securely store their will until the next time they wanted to edit and work on the will.
*If a cop wanted to keep private information and records on cases where they could write their hunches down and the reasoning behind their hunches without worrying about having this information becoming public record, Tray Folder might come in handy.
*If a salesman wanted to keep records of his leads for possible clients or records of past sales without having to worry about a nosey spy stealing his leads.
*Working with taxes or other financial information.
*Keeping records concerning some other peoples' private affairs.
*If you are a heavy user of the "My Documents" folder and you want to clean out your "My Documents" folder and store your folders and files in a secure and handy manner Tray Folder may come in very handy.
------------------------

It is really fairly easy to control your tray folder once you have learned the procedure. This procedure must be somewhat confusing at first in order to help halt anyone from accessing your secured data. This is why Tray Folder includes several other features other than just your tray folder, such as the title bar time and launcher features - (the "Launcher" in the tray icon menu is your launcher tray folder). They are diversions. It is suggested that you not use the "Tools", found in the right-click menu, till you have mastered the "Open" and "Protect" commands.

*2nd step*

There is a "Tray Folder" shortcut group created in your Start Menus Programs list. If you do not want other users to have access to this material, enable the tray icon using "Icon Control" and open the "Tools" feature. From the tools select "View Settings" and experiment with the "Hide Tray Folder in the Start Menu" option. It is the forth one down. Once you have the Tray Folder shortcut hidden, use the "Shortcut key" (sometimes called a "hotkey"), to start Tray Folder.
The Shortcut key is:
Ctrl + Alt + T

This shortcut key can be changed by right-clicking on the Tray Folder shortcut, opening the shortcut's properties, and making the desired change in the "Shortcut key:" textbox.

There is also a "Run" command that will start Tray Folder. You will have to log in so the password will need to be created first.
The Run Command is:
tf2

The Run command can be used in the Start Menu's "Run" feature to start Tray Folder. It can also be used with the "Command Prompt" to start Tray Folder.

There is a shortcut to this Readme created in the Start Menu's Programs list the first time the Tray Folder program is run. This shortcut is removed automatically the first time the secure tray folder is opened, leaving only one shortcut -the shortcut to the Tray Folder executive file.

----------------------
THE SECURE TRAY FOLDER:
----------------------

Cycling Folder = secure/hidden tray folder

Location- ("C:\Documents and Settings\(your profile name)\My Documents\Cycling Folder)

------------------------
THE LAUNCHER TRAY FOLDER:
------------------------

Tray Folder = a launcher that is an unsecured folder
Location- (C:\Document's and Settings\(your profile name)\(profile name)'s Tray Folder)

-------------------
Running the program:
-------------------

Click the Tray Folder shortcut in the Start menus Programs list and an icon displaying the date will be placed in your system tray near the clock. Whenever the program is running this tray icon will display the current date.

The "Tray Folder" shortcut created in the Start Menu's Programs list on the program's first run has a "Hotkey". The Hotkey combination is-
Ctrl + Alt + T
Press these three keys, at the same time, on your keyboard to start the Tray Folder program. If it does not work it is most likely because that "Hotkey" has already been assigned on your computer. Right-click on the shortcut, open its properties to change the "Shortcut key" to a key combination that works for you- it's easy to do.

-----------------------------------
"Launcher" in the Tray Icon Menu:
-----------------------------------

The "Launcher" selection in the right-click menu will open a folder that has been created under your profile in the operating system. This folder is not your "secure" tray folder. This particular tray folder is a launcher. Use it at your convenience and put whatever you want in it.

To open your launcher tray folder you can, number one, double-click on "Tray Folder" in the tray icon's menu or, number two, click on "Launcher" in the tray icon's menu.

--------------
"Run" Commands:
--------------

Click the "Start" button in your taskbar then click on "Run" to enter the following commands:

ic2 ...enable the tray icon
r2 ...protect\unprotect 'Recycler'
tf2 ...start the 'Tray Folder' program

You must have a password before you can use the run commands.

USING THE "RUN" COMMANDS IS THE MOST SECURE METHOD OF USING "TRAY FOLDER" BECAUSE ALL SHORTCUTS AND THE "ICON CONTROL" FILE CAN BE HIDDEN AS SYSTEM FILES OR REMOVED.

You can use the "Command Prompt" to run these commands also. Start the command prompt and type in the commands.

(If the "Run" command is not available on your Start Menu right-click on the Start Menu and open the Start Menu's "Properties". Locate the "Run command" and check it to make it visible.)
------------------------

It would be best not to put programs, or executive files, in your Tray Folder that will be dependent on files located outside of the Tray Folder in order to run. Having program executive files and shortcuts in the Tray Folder might cause Windows, when you try to change the security setting, to give you an error message that the Tray Folder, or a file located in the Tray Folder, is still open when neither Tray Folder nor any of the files located in Tray Folder are truly open, in terms of being visible, but rather running in the background. You can put these articles in the secure tray folder. But it would surely be best not to. THERE IS MORE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT IN THE MANUAL ...Section 6. PLEASE READ.

The Titlebar Time feature:

In the tray icon's right-click menu, if you like, you can select from various date and time formats and have the weekday, date, and time displayed in the active window's title bar.

The Titlebar Time feature, if used, will sense a situation in which there will be a cluttered title bar if it is displayed and will not display the time and/or date in these situations. For instance, if the title bar is less than 450 pixels (about 5 inches) wide or if the title, usually the name of the folder or application, is longer than 40 characters the day/date/time will not display.
------------

Icon Control:

Most Important:
****Do not put the Icon Control.exe in the Cycling folder. "Icon Control" is used to disable the tray Icon and you may lock yourself out.

"Icon Control" is OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE in regard to your protected Tray Folder's security.

AN ALTERNATIVE WAY, AND PROBABLY THE BEST WAY, TO ENABLE THE TRAY ICON'S SECURE TRAY FOLDER FEATURES -GO TO THE START MENU AND OPEN THE "RUN" COMMAND AND TYPE IN "ic2" WITHOUT THE QUOTATIONS.

(A handy SHORT-TERM place to hide "Icon Control" is... behind your Taskbar located at the bottom of your Desktop. You may need to place another shortcut over it to hide it completely.)

THE BEST WAY TO HIDE "Icon Control" IS TO SECURE DELTE IT. (If you want, right-click on it and select "Cut" and open your secure tray folder and paste it in the "Secure Delete" zip file.) However, do not delete it until you have a password. When you use the "ic2" Run command you will need a password.

"Cycling Folder" = your secure tray folder

The "Icon Control" file located in your launcher tray folder is NOT a shortcut to the Icon Control executive file. It IS the Icon Control executive file. It is one of your main keys to opening your secure tray folder. "Icon Control" controls the tray icon and thereby indirectly controls the access to your secure tray folder- the "Cycling Folder".

Move the "Icon Control" executive file to a safe place if you think you need to. It is a very small file and can be kept on a floppy disc if you need to. You may want to hide it in the "Recycle" FOLDER once you have experimented with the "Recycler". There is a hidden folder behind the "Recycler". It would be best to secure delete it and use the ic2 "Run" command.

"Icon Control" is very easy to use. Click "Disable" and the tray icon's right-click menu will be disabled in regard to your secure tray folder. The ability to open the Cycling Folder and the ability to put the Cycling Folder in the unprotected mode will be removed. The tray icon will continue to display the date and the right-click menu will still have the features that are not related to the "Cycling Folder". Click "Enable" and the tray icon will be re-enabled with the above features. In essence, the "Icon Control" executive is the key to lock and unlock the ability to access the Cycling Folder.

Since you use the tray icon to access your Cycling Folder "IconControl" will indirectly disable your Cycling Folder- if it is the protected mode. If the Cycling Folder is not in the protected mode the Cycling Folder will be able to be opened by going to the "Application Data" folder under your profile (see "View Settings" about the 10 minute auto hide). It would be best to keep the "Cycling Folder" in the protected mode, at all times, except when you are working with your Cycling Folder's files.

The tray icon will not be re-enabled by restarting the program, or the computer. You will need to use "IconControl" or "ic2" to re-enable the tray icon.

--------
Reminder:
--------
The "Reminder" feature has been added to Tray Folder for you to use to remind yourself to put the Cycling Folder back in the protected mode. All you have to do to put tray folder in the protected mode is click on "Protect" in the tray icon's right click menu. Click on "Reminder" in the right-click menu and experiment with the reminders tray icon flash interval. It is fun to do. Double-lick on the reminder tray icon, to bring up the Reminder's window, and you can adjust the flash interval and also write memos. You can double-click on the reminder's tray icon at any time the "Reminder" feature is running, the "R" icon or the transparent icon, to bring up the reminder's window. The Reminder can be used as a notepad.

There is a "Notifier" feature that is accessible through the Reminder's window. The "Notifier" will appear in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Click on the "Use the Notifier" button in the Reminder's window to bring up the Notifier window. You can change the Title of the Notifier. A note must be entered for the Notifier or that particular notifier will be automatically closed. The timing of the Notifier can be adjusted using the Up Delay, Show Delay, and Down Delay. These adjustments are in milliseconds (One thousandth of a second). And, the time interval between the appearances of the Notifier, in the lower right-hand corner of your screen, is adjustable between 30 seconds and 3 minutes using the "Notification Interval" adjustment.

---------
AutoStart:
---------

If you like, right-click the tray icon and select "AutoStart" in order to have the program start when you start your computer.

--------------------------
IMPORTANT: ...THE RECYCLER
--------------------------

A shortcut is created in the Start Menu's Programs List to the "Recycler". THE "Recycler" HIDES A FOLDER, in your "Launcher", behind a Recycle Bin type folder. Click on the "Recycler" shortcut and a message box will appear. This message box will tell you if you "Recycle" folder has been "Protected" or "Unprotected". In the protected mode, your hidden folder appears to be a regular Recycle Bin. In the unprotected mode, a folder name "Recycle" is visible. Use this "Recycle" folder as private storage for your personal folders and files. BE SURE TO EXPERIMENT WITH THE "RECYCLER" FOR A MINUTE OR TWO. Put a couple of articles in the folder when it is unprotected and looks like any other folder. Then put it in the protected mode and take a look at it. Open the Recycle Bin. Then put it back in the unprotected mode and your personal files will be visible. As far as security, on a scale of 1 through 10, it is about a 5 -kind of low.

The "Recycler" shortcut in the Start Menu's Programs list will be removed the first time you login to your Cycling folder. There is a run command for the Recycler and there is also a Recycler shortcut in the Tools menu under "Cycling".

"Run" Command for the Recycler: r2

If the Recycler is in the protected mode it will be unprotected when the "Run" Command is used. If it is in the unprotected mode it will be protected.

If you do not use the Recycler, you can delete the Recycler from your launcher tray folder. It will be recreated, the next time you run the Recycler feature, should you decide you want to.
--------

----------------------------------------------
More Information on the launcher "Tray Folder":
----------------------------------------------

"Tray Folder" will create a folder, to be used as a launcher, under your profile name called, of all things, "Tray Folder". The folder will have the same name as your profile name. For instance, my personal tray folder is named "John's Tray Folder". Put anything in your launcher tray folder you want- shortcuts, files, or other folders. For, example if you have several shortcuts on your desktop you use once in a while but not really all that often- store them in the launcher tray folder so they will be out of the way but still handy. If you have stuff you want to hide, to some extent, store that stuff in your launcher tray folder.

Use the launcher for a directory, if you like, and put a variety of other folders in it. If you often are working with a program and have to close or minimize that program to start another program or open a file, put a shortcut to the other programs or files that you may need in your launcher "Tray Folder". It is a launcher. It is not your secure/hidden tray folder.

The tray icon was programmed to display the date in an effort to disguise the fact that it is actually a shortcut to your personal tray folders. The launcher tray folder is used to divert attention from the secure tray folder. The level of security provided by the launcher tray folder is very low- about a 2. (About a 3 if the view setting is used to hide it as a system file- more on view settings in the Manual.)

--------------------
The "Cycling Folder":
--------------------

Select "Open" in your tray icon's "Cycling" menu and another personal Tray Folder will open with a login screen. This second personal Tray Folder is created in C:\Documents and Settings ...under your profile in the "My Documents" folder. For instance, my launcher tray folder is located at C:\Documents and Settings\John\John's Tray Folder. My second Personal Tray Folder, THE SECURE ONE, is located at... C:\Document's and Settings\John\My Documents\Cycling Folder.

Tray Folder = Launcher ...right-click the tray icon and click on "Launcher", located under the "Tray Folder" listing.

Cycling Folder = Secure Tray Folder ...right-click the tray icon, open the "Cycling" menu, and click on "Open", located under the "Tray Folder" listing when the tray icon is enabled. Enter your password to decode and open the secure tray folder's protected contents

Once you have protected the contents of the Cycling Folder you will not be able to view the contents of your Cycling Folder without the password. Nor will anyone else. The Cycling Folder's files are automatically placed in the unprotected mode and the Cycling Folder opens, with your files in place, when you enter your password.

The reason it is called "Cycling Folder"- the Cycling Folder will Cycle through the protected and unprotected mode with very little effort required of the user.

------
Tray Folder Backup:
------

A backup copy will be made of your "Cycling Folder" each time the Cycling Folder's files and folders are placed in the protected mode. Another backup copy is made each time the Tray Folder program is started if your Cycling Folder's files and folders are in the protected mode. These two backups are the ProtectBackup and the StartBackup. The backup files are updated on a continuous basis.

These backups are made to the "Tray Folder" -folder setup by installation in your Program Files directory (the one under your profile). "TRAY FOLDER" IS HIDDEN AS A SYSTEM FILE IN THE PROGRAM FILES DIRECTORY. To make it visible use its view setting found in "View Settings" in the "Tools" listing of the tray icon when it is enabled. The Program Files directory under your profile is very likely hidden as a system file.

To make a backup file of the Cycling Folder's contents, at any given point in time:
(This process can be used as a method of record keeping.)

1. Open the Cycling Folder and make sure its contents are what you want in the backup.

2. Close and protect the Cycling Folder as you normally would.

3. Run "TF Backup", found in the right-click "Tools" menu.

4. Save the Backup file created in "Backup" folder located in your launcher tray folder. If you want, rename it to anything you like.

To open a backup file:

1. To open Backup files use a procedure similar to the one above- but in reverse.

2. Put the Backup file in the "Backup" folder located your launcher. The backup file must be named "Backup".

3. Run "TF Backup", found in the Cycling Menu's "Tools".

4. The Backup file will be open to a "Backup" folder that will be created in your secure tray folder.

5. Secure your backup folders/files located in your secure tray folder and REMOVE, OR RENAME, THE "BACKUP" FOLDER that was created in your secure tray folder- it will be recreated.

(You can open and view these backup files with Notepad if you like. However, since they are in the protected mode do not expect to be able to read them. Be careful opening backup files larger than 50 KB. At the first sign of a problem opening a backup file... simply close the file.)

---------
Passwords:
---------

****If a blank/empty password is tried it will cause the program to shut itself down. This is in defense of someone deleting your password, which is encrypted, from the registry to fool the program into believing there is no password. If someone pulls this stunt you are likely to have an idea that stunts such as this are going on and when you notice your password no longer works you can pretty well be certain some wannabe hacker smartaleck, or some other type snoop, has tried to get into your private information. However, from time-to-time, password data will get corrupted and the password will no longer work. Under either circumstance simply input a new password, or possibly even re-enter and reuse the old password if you are certain it is secure. Another method some people use to try to enter restricted areas having to do with software programs is to uninstall the program and then reinstall it after which they may able to apply a new password and thereby gain access to your data. So, store your setup files in a safe place, such as a password protected zip file, and do not put the Manual, or Readme, in a location where it is available to others.

The "Open" command located in the "Cycling" menu must be used when a password is being created or changed.

The first time you are asked for a password, you will need to create a new password. Your password will be encrypted and saved. You will not be able to open your folder using a password if you forget it. To enter your password for the first time, or to change the password put the word "change" with no quotations in the login textbox. But, you will also need your current password to change the password. The first time you go through this process to establish your first password, leave the password input box blank, when asked for your current password since you do not have a password at that point. After that, your password is saved in the registry in encrypted form. This registry entry will be removed automatically when the program is uninstalled. (Note: All registry entries made by this program will be removed when the program is uninstalled.)

---------------------------------------------------------
The Password Protect.zip file (located in My Tray Folder):
---------------------------------------------------------

PASSWORD: The password for the Password Protect.zip is... 22 ...It can be changed.

The "password Protect.zip" can be moved, deleted, or renamed.

To hide something on a casual basis, use your launcher Tray Folder. To hide data on an "industrial strength" basis use the "password protect" .zip file found in the launcher tray folder. A password protected .zip file is a form of encryption. The password protection to this .zip file can be added, changed, removed, and added once again in a manner of seconds for smaller files like .txt files. For a larger file, such as a document that contains some elaborate charts, graphs, and/or images you will want to allow yourself a few minutes. It takes approximately 10 seconds to add password protection to 1 MB file. Don't advertise the fact you have a secure tray folder. Use your unprotected tray folder for storing files and folders for convenience. Use the secure tray folder for folders and files that need to be secured. And, ALWAYS keep/have a backup copy. Copy and paste the secure Tray Folder to disk or hide it somewhere on your hard drive. Storing backups to disc, or another computer, using encryption and password protected .zip files would be the safest.

****Different compression programs often work very different. As a result, you do need to checkout your password protected ZIP file located in "My Tray Folder" to verify that it is secure. You will often be able to see the titles. If you put one ZIP file inside of another ZIP file you will not be able to see the titles.

You can move the password protected ZIP file anywhere you want. Once tray folder has been up and running for a couple of days you might even consider deleting it if there is nothing in it you want or need.

The password protected zip file was included for several reasons. 1) A password protected .zip file provides a fairly high level of security if done properly. 2) A password protected .zip file is very mobile and can be moved from one computer to another easily with the security intact. 3) A diversion.

(These are general steps for Windows XP "Compressed Folder", the compression utility that comes with XP. "Iceows", a free compression utility has similar steps. Winzip also has somewhat similar steps as will most other compression utilities that are worth having.)

1. Right-click on a file, or files, and select cut.

2. Double-click on the Password Protect.zip file to open it and paste the files that have been cut from another location.

3. On the File menu, click "Add a Password". If the file already has a password, remove the password protection by clicking on "Remove Password" in the File menu. You have to enter the password to remove it. Then add a new password (or reuse the same password) by clicking on "Add a Password" and entering the password.

*Important Note* If you add new files to a password protected .zip file the new files will not be password protected until you remove the password and add it again.

4. In the Password box, type the password that you want to use. Type the same password in the Confirm Password box, and then click OK.

5. When the password protected files are needed, right-click on the Password Protect .zip file and select Extract All. Enter your password when asked and the files will be extracted to the current folder. You can have them extracted to another folder of your choosing if you want.

6. If you update the extracted files you can cut the updated file and paste it back in the Password Protect.zip. It will replace the original file as long as the name has not been changed. Files deleted from the Password Protect.zip file will be permanently deleted and will not go to the Recycle Bin.

7. Whenever files are added to the Password Protect.zip go to File on the menu bar, select "Remove Password", and enter the password in order to be able to remove the password. Then go back to the file menu and select "Add a Password" and re-enter the password so the files that have been added to the Password Protect.zip file will be password protected.

8. Note: These are just general steps, so experiment with it a little to make sure it works like you want it to.

------------
To uninstall:
------------

Save all of your important files and data from your Tray Folders and also save any important encrypted data files to a folder where they are safe. These files will not be removed by the uninstall process but back them up to be on the safe side.

In order to avoid a security risk, the "Secure Deletions" folder under your profile will be shredded/overwritten and removed by the uninstall procedure. If you have been using the Secure Deletions feature, it would be best to run the Secure Deletions program and open the Secure Deletions folder, right before you uninstall Tray Folder, and make sure there is nothing in the folder you will need.

Make sure the program is not running. Select "Tray Folder" on the "Add or Remove Programs" list, accessible though your Control Panel, and click on "Remove". ***Careful- Your personal files and folders will not be removed by uninstalling Tray Folder but it would be best to create a backup.

Once you have the Tray Folder program uninstalled, all your personal files and folders will have been moved to your tray folder located under your profile...

Location- (C:\Document's and Settings\(your profile name)\(profile name)'s Tray Folder)

Everything else having to do with the Tray Folder program will have been removed be the uninstall procedure.

Look for any personal files and folders in the "Cycling Folder" located in the above tray folder.

MAKE SURE YOU SECURE THE ABOVE TRAY FOLDER IF YOU ARE WORKING WITH SENSITIVE DATA.

Cycling Folder:
Location- ("C:\Documents and Settings\(your profile name)\My Documents\Cycling Folder)

Tray Folder:
Location- (C:\Document's and Settings\(your profile name)\(profile name)'s Tray Folder)

------------
To Reinstall:
------------

In the unprotected mode move the Cycling Folder and its contents to a backup location and delete any "Cycling" files from the Application Data folder under your profile. Make backups. Also remove the launcher Tray Folder" launcher folder setup under your profile. Use "Cut" and "Paste" to move the folders and files to your Briefcase or some other safe location. Be sure to make backups in a safe place. Uninstall the program. Make sure the mentioned folders and files have been moved from their default locations. Once you have made backups, secure delete the "Cycling Folder" and the launcher "Tray Folder" from their default-regular locations.

Run the program's setup file to reinstall the Tray Folder program. This should give you a clean install. If the "Cycling Folder" or the launcher- Tray Folder" is in the default location they will not be replaced when you run setup. Follow the procedure found in the "Backup:" Section of this Readme to work with your backup files if you need to but since the backup was made in the unprotected mode you should be able to "Cut" and "Paste" any files or folders you want to put back in the "Cycling Folder" or your launcher "Tray Folder". Be sure to secure the backups once you are through working with them.

Use the Start Menu's shortcut to Tray Folder to start Tray Folder on the first run after reinstalling the program in order for the program to be fully installed.

Check your "View Settings" once you have the program reinstalled.

You can uninstall the program and then reinstall it without making backups of the tray folders, or removing the tray folders, and the files installed by setup will be added to your tray folder files. However, this method of not recommended. It will only take a few minutes to make backups.

Once you have the program reinstalled, organize your tray folders' contents to your liking. It would be best to have a backup of your personal folders and files during this step.
